Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, located at 1 Stadium Place, Jacksonville, FL 32202, is the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars and has been since their inception to the league in 1995. Although it was originally built in 1946 as Gator Bowl Stadium which was torn down and rebuilt as Alltel stadium with portions of the original stadium, and it has undergone renovations to keep it up to date and comparable to other modern stadiums across the country. One renovation project was completed for the team in 1995 and cost the city of Jacksonville $121 million, and the latest renovation occurred in 2003 when $46 million went towards adding a Terrace Suite for 700 people, a new bar, and a new patio along with more escalators and elevators. The stadium is owned by the city of Jacksonville (Spectacor Management Group), and was funded through a city bond issue, a state rebate, a lodging tax, and a ticket surcharge. In 1997, Alltel paid $6.2 million for a 10-year deal on the naming rights of the stadium, and the name lasted for ten years until 2007.

Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is one of the few stadiums that is completely outdoor (no dome or retractable roofing) and has a surface of natural grass that is constantly groomed and maintained. The stadium is able to hold 76,877 people, but temporary seats can be added to bring the overall capacity to more than 82,000. The stadium also has 11,000 club level seats and features 75 luxury suites where the average price of a ticket was $36.59, one of the lower averages in the league.

The Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t the only football team that has occupied Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (formerly Alltel Stadium 1997-2007) for their home games. The Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL (United States Football League) played their games there in 1984 and 1985. The stadium wasn’t expected to be ready for the Jaguars’ first home game back, in 1995, but in less than 20 months, the old Gator Bowl was demolished and Jacksonville Municipal Stadium was created, making it the fastest build major-league stadium in North America. Municipal Stadium's re-opening day was also the home debut of the Jaguars during the 1995 NFL season. It was the first time that an expansion NFL team had played its first game in a new facility. The Jacksonville Municipal Stadium returned as a New Year's Day bowl game on January 1, 1996, following the 1995 NCAA season.

The biggest event in the new history of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium will take place on February 6, 2005, when Super Bowl XXXIX will be brought to the city of Jacksonville. In 2000, the NFL owners voted to have the game played there after new renovations made the stadium one of the NFL’s best.

The attendance record was set on September 29, 2007 when 85,412 watched Florida State defeat Alabama in what was dubbed the River City Showdown.

On May 6, 2009 Jacksonville’s Economic Commission’s Sports Director said that WrestleMania may be hosted by the stadium in 2012 or 2014.
