Heinz Field, located at 100 Art Rooney Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212-5721, was opened in August of 2001 and is the home of the AFC Central’s Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League and the University of Pittsburgh football team. The Steelers played their games in Three Rivers Stadium for more than 30 years along with the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball, but in 1999, each team received a large amount public funding to start construction on their soon to be homes. The construction costs for Heinz Field totaled $281 million when all was said and done, but $76.5 million was covered by the Steelers. Each of the stadiums was built on opposite ends of what used to be Three Rivers Stadium. In an agreement with the Heinz Company, the Steelers signed a 20-year contract with the company that gave Heinz full naming rights to the new facility for a total of $57 million.

The field is natural grass and the stadium can hold 64,450 people with ease. On each side of the field is a grandstand with three distinct tiers for fans to sit in. The lower level seats circle the field all the way around, and there are 7,000 club level seats and 120 luxury suites for fans to choose from when selecting their seats. There is a humongous scoreboard/video board located on the south end of the field that measures 48 ft by 27 ft. Heinz Field is also in the shape of a horseshoe, so almost every seat in the stadium offers the fans a fantastic view of the famous Pittsburgh skyline. The closest airport is only 13 miles down the road and there are excellent hotels in the stadium area to offer the fan from out of town a wonderful experience along with the game. In the first three years, fans have had a capacity higher than 90% in Heinz Field, and in the inaugural 2001 season at Heinz Field, the total attendance was only 809 people away from 500,000 for the season.
